The expected consumer beta of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 8 will not be called "beta" as was the tradition but will assume the name "Consumer Preview", and it is due for release. It will be released on February 29 and will be held at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The copy of this consumer preview will be available for download only to the invites, simply means that this consumer preview copy will be available only for those who will have invites.
On February 29, Microsoft will hold a special, invitation-only event in Barcelona. Presumably, at the same time they will flip a switch that gives the general public access to a major milestone in the Windows 8 development process.
Microsoft sent out invitations today (pictured) and secure this important event chose mobile because of their strong interest to enter the market for tablets. The presentation, however, is not within the events center which will host the conference, but at another hotel in the city. Microsoft also opened the same day the App Store Windows 8. Recall that was previously only available version "alpha" for developers of Windows 8.
Although the company has not said anything about the release date of the new operating system, date of beta suggests that we could see the final for the third quarter of this year - in October if it follows the trend we have seen in earlier. Windows 8 is the major renovation that has received the Microsoft OS since Windows 95, with a complete change to the interface, which adopts the style Metro first appeared in Windows Phone 7.
